Chess has been known for thousands of years, and its origin is uncertain, dating back to the 6th century BCE in India, while others attribute it to ancient Persia.
In June of this year 2022, as a result of an exploration conducted in the ancient site known as Tollan, now called Tula de Allende in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico, this chess set was discovered. It consists of a circular board with a diameter of 60 cm and 32 pieces in very good condition despite having remained underground for thousands of years.
The main face of the board is engraved with four winged beings of non-human origin and some symbols similar to Egyptian hieroglyphs. However, it lacks any Egyptian characters or depictions of figures or symbols from the Mesoamerican cultures.
On the back face, two non-human beings are carved. One of them is partially out of what could be interpreted as a dimensional portal, while the other winged being faces the first one, seemingly in a form of greeting. On the back of the latter, the symbol of the DNA helix is engraved, giving the impression that the encounter of these beings is taking place in outer space.
The antiquity of this chess set predates the emergence of the earliest Mesoamerican cultures, with the Olmec culture being considered the mother culture, dating back more than 3800 years.
Based on its engravings, we are certain that chess was a game practiced by these alien beings and obviously invented by them. The symbolism gives us an understanding of the movement of each piece on the board.
